Simon Fletcher by Dean Partlow, College Counselor
Mr. Fletcher was born in Palo Alto and moved to Santa Cruz when he was 2 years old. He attended local schools and enjoyed his time at Mountain Elementary, New Brighton Middle School and Soquel High School. He graduated from Soquel High School as Valedictorian in 1992. Mr. Fletcher lived a healthy Santa Cruz lifestyle as a teenager, surfing Pleasure Point and working for the Junior Lifeguards in Capitola. After High School, Mr. Fletcher headed to Stanford where he studied Biological Sciences. He returned to Santa Cruz and became a tutor and substitute teacher.
This is when he learned about an exciting opportunity to participate in the creation of a new charter school, Pacific Collegiate School. The early days of PCS, according to Mr. Fletcher, were full of energy and creativity and he continues to keep this spirit of growth and cutting edge education alive today. After joining PCS he returned to school and earned his Master’s in Educational Leadership from San Jose State University. He likes that PCS is a place for passionate kids who might like to surf, play sports, or participate in theater, and also take their education seriously. After all his years in education, Mr. Fetcher believes the importance of education, for our society and our world, is to create educated individuals who can understand a complex world and solve complex problems.
To balance the hard work as Principal, Mr. Fletcher enjoys time with his family and tending to his many fruit trees on his property. If you happen to have seen his wetsuit drying from his truck mirror in the school parking lot, you know he still loves to surf. Mr. Fletcher finds his work at PCS rewarding; he relishes watching young people push themselves, and grow and achieve success.
