The bustling front office of PCS could not be a more perfect setting in which to find the calm and thoughtful presence of Jessica Espinoza.
Born in San Jose, Jessica spent most of her childhood in Bay Village, Ohio, on the shores of beautiful Lake Erie. She grew up with her mother and sister, close to her maternal grandmother. Once she graduated high school, Jessica felt a strong pull to return to her California roots and so she made her way back to sunny California in the summer of 2005, direct to Santa Cruz.
Over the last fifteen years Jessica has been very busy. She was the first in her family to go to college, managing to self-finance her studies while raising her son. Her college path initially took her to Cabrillo, where she earned three associate degrees. Having graduated, she promptly went to work in the mental health field, which she loved, but a year later found herself drawn to resume her college education. In December 2019, Jessica proudly graduated from UCSC with a degree in Sociology.
It is perhaps no surprise that a woman who has spent the best part of the last decade working and studying should, in what little free time she has, enjoy research projects! The topics Jessica has studied have been wide ranging, from healthy living to US history. Indeed, it was during one of these research odysseys, for her son’s future education, that Jessica chanced across PCS, and lucky for us that she did!
Looking to the future, Jessica is excited. She has found a warm welcome at PCS, enjoys being around the student population, and finds the environment to be very inviting. With a schedule that will now enable her to travel more, she hopes one day to be able to visit Fiji or backpack around Europe. In the meantime, when she wants to let her hair down, you’ll find Jessica enjoying some 90’s karaoke!
