Wes Winter by Chris Marentette, Science Teacher
New to PCS and Santa Cruz, Wes has been a Science tutor for high school, middle school and college students. He has been a substitute and instructional science assistant in both elementary and middle schools. Wes taught chemistry at Quarry Lane School in Dublin.
Wes attended the University of California, Berkeley where he was awarded his Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry. He followed that with obtaining a Masters of Arts in Teaching from the University of San Francisco. His love of science education led him to work at the Lawrence Hall of Science as a museum educator and physics lab assistant.
As Wes grew up, he was always flipping logs looking for insects, reptiles, and spiders. His interest in living creatures inspired his love for science. When young, Wes had dogs, snakes, cats, and rats as pets. He became interested in chemistry when he learned how closely connected chemistry and biology are. Wes enjoys playing music, reading sci-fi and fantasy books, weightlifting and hiking. Wes, a drummer, enjoys music and has performed in marching bands, jazz bands, and garage ska bands. He still plays occasionally and is always looking forward to starting new musical groups.
Students taking Wes’ chemistry class can expect a rigorous, yet fun experience with facilitated discussions and group activities. Students who come to class with an open mind and good attitude will absolutely succeed. Wes enjoys bringing up cross-curricular subjects in classes to make connections for everyone.
Wes was attracted to PCS because of its excellent standards and location. He finds students extremely kind and helpful. Wes is excited to be living in Santa Cruz and working with everyone at PCS!
