Gabe Cohn

Gabe Cohn by Lindsay Cross, Math Teacher

Gabe grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and attended college at Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where he studied sociology. After college he worked with labor unions – in Washington D.C. and California – as a researcher and later as a union representative organizer.

When Gabe chose to change careers, he attended Mills College in Oakland, CA to obtain his teaching credential. He has taught middle school English, history, and social studies. At PCS he pioneered the Resistance Seminar, in which students learn about and take part in social activism. In the 2016 - 2017 school year his students came up with the idea to petition the school board for an explicit sanctuary policy. He was pleased to support them in their work.

Outside of teaching, Gabe’s passions include spending time with his wife (21 years together!), traveling, and board games. Gabe has traveled to China, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos. He has also traveled around much of Latin America, primarily Peru, where his wife conducts sociological research.

Gabe’s love of board games has led him to create his own, two of which are in contract to be published. Their titles are Exodus Fleet and Divine Intervention.

Gabe’s science fiction book list:

The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin
The City and the City by China Miéville
